The Jazzminions are a group of obsequious follower of jazz, whether it be New Orleans, Dixie, swing,bebop, hard bop, progressive, free, modern, or fusion jazz.
Initially comprising of students from music department in Faculty of Humanities of Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, who took elective courses on jazz improvisation from Pathorn Srikaranonda since 2006,the course evolve into a life-long learning program that students learned from real-life situations. In 2009,in preparation for the celebration of HM the King’s 84 birthday, the four-musician Kasetsart Jazz Ensemble (Pathorn Srikaranonda on Saxophones, Sarun Ungpanya on Guitar, Suppanart Khunakonchittirak on Bass,and Pruettiron “Asujazz” Nanthawowat on Drums)was formed in order to perform the royal compositions which were recorded for television programs.
By 2011 it was evolved into a quintet (with Rapeepat Pongsawapark on Piano) and was known for its fresh interpretation of the music of HM the King. The band performed on many important occasions such as during His Majesty the King’s 7th Cycle Birthday celebration where the band performed for a large audience of 10,000 in front of the Grand Palace. It also took part at the 2011 Snake City Jazz Festival in Slangerup and in 2012 at Århus World View Festival and at the Copenhagen Zoo before HRH Prince Henrik the Prince Consort of Denmark. In late 2012, the band was joined by the virtuoso jazz pianist Billy Alcordo of Rembrandt Hotel and the band became known as “Prof Pat’s Quintet Rembrandt” and released its first recording, An Elephantine Ballad. In 2013 the band was invited to perform at the Nordens Madfestival in Copenhagen and later at the prestigious Royal Festival Musik på Slottet at the Hall of State, The Royal Palace of Stockholm, Sweden commemorating the 40 th Anniversary of HM King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Enthronment.
When performing ragtime and traditional jazz, the band also includes two more musicians (Yuttasak Plaipoo on Trumpet and Rungtham Thammakarn on Trombone). Despite its extensive touring abroad, the band also
performs in their hometown Bangkok in numerous recording projects and studio works.
